All of our Collies are examined by a veterinarian, cleaned up, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and placed in foster homes where they are cared for until they are matched with an adoptive home. Collies in foster care are treated as members of the family and assessed for personality and behavior traits, as well as compatibility with children and with other pets as much as possible. After this initial assessment period, the Collies are available for adoption.
To initiate the adoption process, applicants should complete the MWCR Adoption Application (click on the link below). After an application is received, MWCR contacts personal and veterinary references and conducts a home visit. Adoptive homes need to have an appropriate exercise area or fenced yard, understand the responsibilities of Collie ownership, and treat the Collie as a member of the family. After an application is approved, the Adoption Team finds the best possible Collie match, after which a meeting with the Collie may be arranged. An adoption is completed with signing of our Adoption Contract and payment of the Adoption Fee.
MWCR accepts applications from anywhere in the U. S. and Canada; we have placed Collies in many states other than MN and WI.
1) Application Fee (nonrefundable): $25, $10 of which is applicable to the Adoption Fee. The Application Fee is tax deductible.
2) Adoption Fee: Adoption fees offset medical and other costs. All Collies are vaccinated and spayed/neutered prior to adoption; the fee includes a Microchip registered to the adopter. For MN residents, sales tax applies.
